Po Toi Island is reached by a licensed kaito run by Tsui Wah Ferry Service, listed by the Transport Department as route ABDN 15. It does not sail every day: the published timetable covers Tuesdays and Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays with public holidays, and each of those days has its own pattern. Boats to the island start from two places on Hong Kong Island, the Tsui Wah pier on the Aberdeen waterfront and Blake Pier in Stanley, so check the line under the board to see which pier a departure uses.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays outside public holidays the island gets one boat from each pier in the morning, and a single afternoon boat brings everyone back to Aberdeen. The Hong Kong Tourism Board advises being at the Po Toi pier at least 30 minutes before that return to be sure of a seat, and says the boat sounds its horn 30, 15 and 1 minute before it goes. Saturdays add an afternoon trip, and on Sundays and public holidays most sailings shuttle between Stanley and the island, with one early boat out of Aberdeen and one evening boat that carries on there. After a summer suspension, Tsui Wah brought back the mid-morning Stanley sailing on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 1 October 2026.
Timings at sea are approximate: the Tourism Board gives about 50 minutes from Aberdeen and about half an hour from Stanley. Visitors pay HK$30 per single trip on every operating day, while island residents pay HK$22 or HK$24 depending on the day. Children under 3 go free if an adult is with them and they do not take a seat. Fares are paid by Octopus or in cash into a fare box, and no change is given. If your Octopus is charged too much, tell the crew the same day; Tsui Wah deducts a handling fee from refunds. Only groups of 30 or more can book ahead.
The Tourism Board describes an island of 3.69 square kilometres with a walk of about 4 km past Tortoise Rock, the numbered lighthouse at Nam Kok Tsui and Buddha's Hand Rock, and a seafood restaurant by the beach at Tai Wan village. Weather can stop the kaito, so ring Tsui Wah before you go.
- Be at the pier before departure; on some routes the time shown is when the pier gate closes.
- Check the operator's notices on the day — typhoon signals, strong winds and rainstorm warnings can suspend or change sailings.
- Bicycles, pets and large luggage have their own rules and charges on some routes; check before you travel.
