Luggage, animals and wheelchairs Star Ferry's passenger notice limits items carried on board to 40 cm long, 40 cm wide and 17.5 cm high, bans dangerous goods, and admits no animals or poultry except guide dogs for visually impaired passengers. Wheelchair users board from the lower deck, up to four per ferry; call +852 2118 6213 if you need to plan around that.
Delays and bad weather According to Star Ferry, marine traffic, sea and weather conditions and the vessels available can all shift actual sailing times. Tropical cyclone signals and rainstorm warnings can suspend or alter the service; Star Ferry posts arrangements under Latest News.
Star Ferry from Wan Chai The Wan Chai Ferry Pier route also lands at the Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry Pier. It has a single fare level for all passengers, carries bicycles and runs to a different weekly pattern, so it is shown on its own page.

Current fares, charged until 24 January 2027 (Transport Department and Star Ferry tables). Each fare depends on the deck you board and the day: Monday to Friday except public holidays, or Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Concession fares apply to children from 3 to under 12, passengers with a Registration Card for People with Disabilities, and people aged 65 or over who produce a Hong Kong Identity Card, Senior Citizen Card or other proof of age and use a Personalized or Elder Octopus. Separately, Star Ferry says JoyYou Card holders can ride for HK$2 under the Government's $2 Scheme. Under-3s go free if accompanied by someone aged 12 or over; Star Ferry's notice allows two per paying adult, no taller than 95 cm, without a seat of their own. Monthly tickets cover the current month and are sold at the Tsim Sha Tsui pier control centre from the 26th of the previous month to the 10th, with a recent photo. The HK$50 tourist ticket gives four consecutive days of unlimited rides on this route and Wan Chai–Tsim Sha Tsui and is limited to people admitted as visitors. Higher fares take effect on 25 January 2027. All fares in Hong Kong dollars (HKD).
The Star Ferry from Central leaves from Pier 7 on Man Kwong Street and crosses Victoria Harbour to the Star Ferry Pier on Salisbury Road in Tsim Sha Tsui, a trip the Transport Department times at about 9 minutes. The Star Ferry Company runs it as a franchised route; a Government spokesperson, announcing the 2027 fare rise, said the company has run cross-harbour services since 1898.
Boats run in both directions every day from 06:30 to 23:30, but there is no timetable of individual sailings. The published table lists intervals instead, as tight as every 6 minutes in the weekday morning peak and every 10 to 12 minutes early and late. Unlike the Wan Chai crossing, this route uses the same pattern on Saturdays as on Sundays and public holidays, and its fares follow the same split.
Where you sit changes the price. An adult pays HK$4 on the lower deck and HK$5 on the upper deck from Monday to Friday, rising to HK$5.60 and HK$6.50 on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Children aged 3 to 11, people with disabilities and passengers aged 65 or over pay between HK$2.80 and HK$3.90, the over-65s only with proof of age and a Personalized or Elder Octopus. Visitors can buy a HK$50 tourist ticket for four days of unlimited rides on both Star Ferry routes at the Tsim Sha Tsui pier.
There are three ways to pay. An Octopus card opens the gates at every Star Ferry pier, and cash is accepted in Hong Kong coins and HK$10 or HK$20 notes; the payment page says change is given, while the passenger notice asks you to bring the exact amount. Self-service machines take WeChat Pay, Alipay, UnionPay QuickPass and credit cards and print a ticket for each passenger.
Three passenger rules are worth checking before you travel. Hand items may measure no more than 40 by 40 by 17.5 cm, animals are not allowed apart from guide dogs, and wheelchair users board from the lower deck, which takes four at most. From 25 January 2027 adults will pay HK$4.80 or HK$6 on weekdays and HK$7.20 or HK$8.30 at weekends, depending on the deck.
- Be at the pier before departure; on some routes the time shown is when the pier gate closes.
- Check the operator's notices on the day — typhoon signals, strong winds and rainstorm warnings can suspend or change sailings.
- Bicycles, pets and large luggage have their own rules and charges on some routes; check before you travel.
